I currently have the 300D. I still need to get the grip for the 40D. I'm just so used to the feel of the camera with the battery grip. I played with it a little last night trying to get used to the feel. I was hoping to avoid buying another $200 grip but I think I will have to bite the bullet. Now I have to save up for the 100-400mm L series lens. I'm thinking of getting the 17-40mm too.
Consider getting a 17-55 f/2.8 IS, its a little more expensive than the 17-40 but you get what you pay for. Its by far the best lens for the xxD series cameras!
Paige can teach you! She's a pro. I'm just a hack. 20 years ago I was a decent photographer. I used to write for a R/C airplane magazine and took lots of pictures when I did that. I even managed to get a few cover shots published. But writing a monthly column just took way too much time (especially for someone that never managed better than a "C" in English class).
Heck, I'll sell you my old camera if you want to get into SLR.
I might have to take you up on that. Is your old camera digital or film? I keep looking at classes at the community college but they always want you to have a film SLR. Yeah, like I'm going to go buy a brand new film SLR in the digital age. Hell, I don't even want to buy a new digital SLR since I don't know if I'm smart enough to be able to use one.
Unfortunately I sold it yesterday. It was digital. I do have a very nice film SLR. It's a Canon Elan IIe. I'd give it to you want it although it's a body only. (I use the lens on my digital)

golfer the 50D comes out next month!
Yea, I know but it's $500 more and I'de rather spend that towards a lens right now.

Come on have some real fun. Apply for all the pre-approved cards and go crazy.
My mailbox routinely has an entire body and complete lense worth of credit to burn.
When they ask for payment take a picture of a $20 and send them 200 copies. FICO scores will be as useful as tits on a hog.
So, teach me how to use one of those, will ya? I've just got a Canon IS2S point and shoot and I'd love to learn how to use an slr.
